Hornsea very recently gained the blue flag for the quality of its beach. It means bathing water quality has been judged to be excellent, meeting the tough new standard laid down by the new bathing directive, which has to meet a European standard. The classification for the water quality is based on the level of bacteria in the water monitored by the Environment Agency between May and September this year.
